Dom Robert, the religious name of Guy de Chaunac-Lanzac, was born on December 15, 1907, in Nieuil-l'Espoir and died on May 10, 1997, in Dourgne. He was a Benedictine monk, painter, and tapestry cartoonist from France.
Dom Robert studied at the Jesuit College in Poitiers, then at the National School of Decorative Arts in Paris. Initially, he designed patterns for the silk house Ducharne in Paris.
His connections with Jacques Maritain and Maxime Jacob led him to enter the En-Calcat Abbey in 1930, where he was ordained a priest in 1937. His encounter in 1941 with Jean Lurçat inspired him to create tapestries with the Tabard workshop in Aubusson.
In 1948, he left for Buckfast Abbey in England but returned to En-Calcat in 1958, where he continued to produce art tirelessly.
