Exceptional Flemish tapestry, Brussels finely woven in wool and silk. It has for register history of Alexander the Great victorious.

The scene in question was painted by the painter Ch.LEBRUN (1619-1690) in 1661.

In 334, he landed in Asia, starting a campaign that lasted ten years. He won a first victory against the Persian satraps in Granada, which gave him Anatolia. Then in 333, he defeated the king Darius III in Issos. He undertook the conquest of Phoenicia and marched to Egypt where he was proclaimed pharaoh.

Alexander the Great's career was exceptional, making him a myth of antiquity. Crowned king at the age of 20, victorious in many battles, he conquered a huge empire from Greece to India. Through his military successes, he also contributed to the development of Greek culture outside its borders. As for dates, Alexander the Great was born on July 21, 356 BC in Pella, Greece (Macedonia). He acceded to the throne in 336 BC. The king of Macedonia died on June 13, 323 BC in Babylon, Mesopotamia.
