The Tekkes, or Tekes (literally "mountain ibexes"), form one of the most important historical tribes of the Turkmen (or Turcomans). They nomadized in the south and center of present-day Turkmenistan, as well as in a fringe of Iran. Their cradle was from the Manguistaou peninsula to the foothills of Kopet-Dag, and in the oases of Merv, Serakhs and Akhal-Téké, where they had been settled between 1714-1719 by their chief Keïmir Kor.
