Modern Aubusson tapestry woven by the workshop Pierre LEGOUEIX, with its bolduc signed by the artist, n°4/6.
Circa 1980.
It was in 1953 that Jean Picart le Doux offered Chaye to become his assistant and encouraged him to create tapestry boxes: he then made many bucolic boxes, but also views of Normandy (Mont Saint Michel, Honfleur, regattas,...), where he was born.
Established in Honfleur since 1964, Chaye has designed numerous boxes relating maritime activity in the Seine estuary, just like André Hambourg in paintings.
