René Perrot was a student at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs between 1932 and 1936, and started out as a poster artist, but stopped working during the Second World War.
From 1945, he devoted himself to tapestry, and in 1946 took part in the first French tapestry exhibition at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris. He went on to produce over 500 cartoons, executed by major manufacturers such as Rivière des Borderies, Ateliers Pinton and Tapisserie d'Aubusson. Throughout his life, he continued to engrave, in wood and etching, and was also a renowned ceramist.
