Bibliography: Tapestries, drawings, paintings, engravings by René Perrot

René Perrot was a student at the École nationale supérieure des arts décoratifs between 1932 and 1936, and started out as a poster artist, but stopped working during the Second World War.

As early as 1932, he became interested in mural art after meeting Jean Lurçat. René Perrot is the inventor of a wall decoration process, nitrogravure on comblanchien stone.
His anti-militarism led him to write two albums about the First World War, one prefaced by Roland Dorgelès, the other by François Barthille. During the war, he joined Paul Flamand and his team in the Jeune France movement. In 1942, he was appointed chargé de mission at the Musée national des arts et traditions populaires, where he toured France with the museum's construction sites.
At the end of the war, he took up the cardboard-making trade in Felletin, then in Aubusson in Creuse.

From 1945, he devoted himself to tapestry, and in 1946 took part in the first French tapestry exhibition at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris. He went on to produce over 500 cartoons, executed by major manufacturers such as Rivière des Borderies, Ateliers Pinton and Tapisserie d'Aubusson. Throughout his life, he continued to engrave, in wood and etching, and was also a renowned ceramist.

He took part in numerous solo and group exhibitions in France and abroad, as well as numerous salons. His work can be seen at the Musée d'Art Moderne in Paris, the Mobilier national, the Musée de la chasse, histoire et nature en Val-de-Loire at the Château-musée de Gien, and the Musée d'Art et d'Histoire de Dreux.
