Aubusson tapestry after the original composition by Marc Petit, signed lower right and monogrammed Atelier Pinton with bolduc.
Marc Petit is one of the great painters-cartonniers of the 20th century. Born in 1932, he came to basse-lisse tapestry at an early age, creating his own designs: with just over 600 cartons, Marc Petit's uninterrupted work to date has generated thousands of weavings.
Marc Petit met Jean Lurçat in 1954, visited Aubusson in 1955, exhibited for the first time at La Demeure in 1956, and became a member of the A.P.C.T. (Association des Peintres-Cartonniers de Tapisserie) in 1958. From these dazzling beginnings, he went on to produce hundreds of cartoons in a highly personal style, in which stilt-walkers meet tightrope walkers in dreamlike landscapes.
