Carton for the tapestry for the Don Quixote Hanging, painted for the Manufacture des Gobelins. Deposited at the Palais de Compiègne for the wedding of Louise, daughter of Louis-Philippe, and Leopold I in 1832 (part of a set of thirty-four paintings, of which twenty-seven were original subjects and seven repeats, and of which twenty-eight paintings were deposited in 1832 and six in 1841; INV 3554 to INV 3587).
Listed in the supplementary inventory B of 1824: located in Compiègne.
Repatriated to the Louvre on 10 November 1846; again sent to Compiègne on 9 May 1849 (except for INV 3562 and INV 3585, repatriated to the Louvre on 25 October 1862 and redeposited in Compiègne).
