11 Jesus said, "A certain man had two sons. 12 The younger said to his father, 'Father, give me my share of the inheritance which is mine. And the father divided his goods. 13 A few days later the younger son gathered up all that he had and went to a far country, where he wasted his wealth on a life of disorder. 14 When he had spent it all, there came a great famine in that region, and he began to be destitute. 15 He went and took a job with a local man, who sent him out into the fields to tend the pigs. 16 He would have liked to fill his belly with the pods that the pigs ate, but no one gave him anything. 17 Then he thought, 'So many of my father's laborers have plenty of bread, and I am starving here! 18 I will go back to my father, and say to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I no longer deserve to be called your son. Take me as one of thy workmen.' 20 So he went away to his father's house. While he was still far off, his father saw him and was filled with pity; he ran and ran and fell on his neck and kissed him. 21 The son said to him, 'Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son...' 22 But the father said to his servants, 'Quickly, bring the best garment to clothe him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. 23 Go and fetch the fatted calf, kill it; let us eat and feast. 24 For this my son was dead and has come back to life; he was lost and has been found'. And they began to feast. 25 The elder son was in the field. When he came back to the house, he heard music and dancing.26 He called one of the servants and asked what was going on. 27 He said, 'Your brother has returned. And your father has killed the fattened calf, because he has seen his healthy son come back'.28 Then the elder son became angry, and refused to come in. His father, who had gone out, begged him. 29 But he replied, 'I have been in your service for so many years without ever disobeying your orders, and you have never given me a kid to feast on with my friends. 30 But when this son of yours came after spending your property on daughters, you had the fattened calf killed for him'.31 The father replied, 'You, my child, are always with me, and everything that is mine is yours.32 We had to feast and rejoice, for this brother of yours was dead and has come back to life; he was lost and has been found. »
