17th century Felletin tapestry - Tapestry of the Astrée novel by Honoré d'Urfé
Tapestry panel of the Manufacture of Felletin / Aubusson, from the second half of the 17th century, in wool and silk, belonging to a series of hanging in 5 or 6 panels. Here the register of this tapestry relates the second part of Astrée's adventures: novel by Honoré d'Urfé (1567-1625), very popular at that time. This novel later inspired Jean-Baptiste Molière (1622-1673), Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778), Jean de La Fontaine (1621-1695) and Voltaire (1694-1778). A beautiful flowered border with musicians playing the snake on each side of the upper part, a wind instrument close to the horn.
